Spotlight: Jason Jenkins
Interview by: MikeHolm
You ready?
Ready as I'll ever be.
Just for the record, who are you and where are you from?

I'm Jason Jenkins, I'm 19 years old, and I'm originally from San Diego, CA. But where I've lived is a different story...
I'm sure we have time, where'd you live?
I was born in SD, moved to Boston when I was 2, and moved back to SD when I was 4 1/2. Then my parents made the decision to move to Berlin, Germany when I was 8, then I moved to Frankfurt, Germany when I was 12, and moved to Budapest, Hungary when I was 14. Now I'm living in Boston, MA.
Wow, you get around more than a disease infected hooker. How do you manage?
Home is where your family is at, man. Making new friends becomes easy after the third move or so. This whole living alone thing is new to me, but I'm managing. Boston is dope enough of a city for me to feel at home.
How are the local skaters treating you there?
Thanks to Perception, I was lucky enough to contact Zander and RE. That kinda helped me get in with some people, but other than that, it's just me being me, and skating and filming as much as possible.
Cool, cool...alright, down to business. What you packing?
The ideal skilmer's set up! Representing the dark side for life - VX1000, MK1, Bescor 50/100. Thanks to college and some friends, I have access to a DVX100A when necessary as well.
Rad, you're a walking cliche. Any projects in the works recently?
Well, if you consider last summer recently, I released my second indie flick, "From The Ground Up." It featured some local Hungarian kids, as well as an American and a Swede. As for right now in Boston, I'm just filming kids and sending footy where they want it to go.
That's cool. Where do you see yourself headed in 5 years? What do you want to do with your life?
Oh man, that's hard to say. I'm currently studying film production at Boston University, so obviously I'm hoping to get involved in the film/television industry. I don't know about grad school, yet. Besides my studies, I just want to travel as much as possible, film and skate as much as possible, and most importantly, just enjoy every opportunity I get.
OH....a fun little fact I just pulled up. Did you know you're SkatePerception's 3rd registered member? How does that make you feel Mr. Smarty Pants?
Makes me feel superior to all the little noobs scouring the site these days. Nah, it's nothing special really. Laurence told me about the site and I joined as soon as possible because I was just really getting into filming.
And what has SP done for your filming career?
SP has kept me motivated to film. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a web nerd as my post count will prove. Just watching great videos on the site and getting my filming critiqued has helped me move on to different levels of filming that I wouldn't have been able to achieve without the site. I'd probably be a drunk frat boy without the site.
Sweet. Well, I think that covers enough to get your damn spotlight up. Do you want to send any shoutouts to your homies? If so, get it out of your system now. We'll leave the rest for the next interview...maybe.
Yeah, I want to thank my family for giving me the opportunities I've had so far in life.
Shout outs to all the homies in Budapest - Sean, Ubi, Ricsi, Huvas, Johan, Kristof, Zsolt, Balint, Zone Skateshop, Julcsi, Sascha, Ali, etc.. - and all the homies in Boston - Zander, Ray, John, Gavin, Evan, Danny, Waffle, Nate, Kurt, and Shitty. Major shoutouts to Steve and Mike for making my life less pathetic.
